Why there's no free trial

Because a trial can only ever show you the bottom rungs — the weather, the solunar, the commodity half every app has. The rungs that are actually worth the money are built from your fish, and no seven days is long enough to build them. So instead: all purchases go through the App Store or Google Play, and if it doesn't earn its keep, request a refund from the store — it takes a minute, and we'll never contest one.

How is this different from a fishing log app?

Everyone gives you a logbook. Nobody gives you what the logbook knows. Logging is the input here, not the product — the app reads your catches back as tomorrow's call: which of your areas is worth the fuel, which hours, and what has worked on that water in these conditions before.

How long before it knows anything about my fishing?

Tonight, if you bring your history with you. Photo Scan turns years of camera roll into trips, spots and catches in minutes. GPX brings your plotter's marks and tracks across whole. And if you already subscribe, your log is simply there — the update carries it forward in place. After that, every trip sharpens it — the forecasts grade themselves against what you actually caught.

I already subscribe — what does this cost me?

Nothing. This is the update to the app you already have — same listing, same subscription, same price. Your catches, spots, trips, tracks, photos and boat carry forward in place the first time you open it; there is nothing to export, re-buy or set up — and on iPhone, your iCloud backup stays untouched underneath it. On Android the update arrives the same way, through Google Play, on the listing you already have.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes, and that is the working state rather than a degraded one. Logging a catch, starting a trip, dropping a spot, tracking a drift, tides, solunar and your whole history all run on the phone. Forecasts for your areas are fetched ahead of time, while you still have a connection, so they are there when you don't. Anything that needs the network queues and drains when you're back in range — days later is fine.

Do I need an account?

Only to sync. Without one, everything works and everything stays on that one phone — if you lose it, the data goes with it. With one, your fishing follows you to an iPad or a second phone and survives a new one. An expired sign-in never locks you out of your own data; it only pauses syncing.

Can you see my spots? Do you sell my data?

If you sync, your catches and coordinates are on our servers in a form our systems can read — that is what makes it possible to prepare your forecasts before you lose signal, and to put your history back on a new phone. We won't tell you we can't read it, because that wouldn't be true. What we commit to instead is narrower and enforceable: it is used to serve you, it is never pooled with another angler's, it is never sold, and your spots are never published. The privacy policy spells out exactly what is stored and where.

Is there a feed, a leaderboard, a community?

No, and there isn't going to be. Sharing is invite-only and deliberate: Buddy Share puts your live drift on one buddy's map for the length of a trip and ends when the trip does. Share cards and charter postcards carry the day's story and photos without your coordinates on them.

Can I get my data back out?

Whenever you want. Export to CSV, or export your entire log as a browsable website — every trip, catch and photo, readable with no app, no account and nothing from us. You can also delete your account from inside the app, or at gethooked.fish/delete-account, which genuinely deletes it.

What happens if I stop subscribing?

Your data stays on your device and you can still export it. Nothing is deleted and nothing is held hostage. Manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or under Subscriptions in Google Play on Android — the same as any store subscription.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No — the phone does everything, on iPhone and on Android. On iPhone, the watch is simply the fastest way to log a fish with wet hands: one tap with the screen off, queued offline, and the trolling speed alert taps your wrist without you reaching for anything. There is no Wear OS app; on Android the phone is the whole kit.

Is there an Android version?

Yes. v4 ships for iPhone, iPad and Android, and on Google Play it arrives the way it does on the App Store — as an update to the app already on the listing, same subscription, same price. The engines and the log are the same on both: forecasts graded against your own catches, your patterns, Photo Scan and GPX import, every export, Buddy Share, Captain's Mode. What stays iPhone-only is the Apple hardware — Apple Watch, Siri and iCloud backup. On Android, sync is your copy.

Does it replace my chartplotter or my charts?

It isn't navigation and doesn't pretend to be — never run a boat off it. But the bottom is in the app now: depth contours, named reefs, structure and hard-versus-soft lakebed, built from public sources (Ohio DNR · NOAA NCEI), working offline, and — unlike a licensed chart layer — feeding the forecast engines. The chart subscription most people carry costs more per year and knows nothing about your fishing.

Does it work where I fish?

Conditions, weather, solunar, tides, gages and the forecast scoring work wherever you fish, and the part that learns is not species-specific: it learns whatever you log, wherever you log it. Bottom data ships as twelve packs today — four Great Lakes, inland lakes across Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois, and six coastal regions from the Atlantic Northeast to the Pacific Northwest. Where a state has published nothing usable, the app says so and why — coverage grows state by state rather than claiming every lake in America.

What does it cost, and is anything held back for a higher tier?

$29.99 a year, and nothing is held back. There are no tiers, no add-ons and no consumables — Captain's Mode, Buddy Share, the imports and the exports are all in the one subscription. Existing subscribers keep the price they have.
