Support
A real person reads every message. Usually the one who wrote the app.
Last updated: September 16, 2026
Get in touch: support@gethooked.fish
Usually answered within a day. Longer during walleye season, for reasons you will understand.
Two other places worth trying first: Help & Tips is the app's own help, searchable, and the questions people ask before buying are answered on the price page.
Elsewhere: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, plus Hooked on Yutz on Facebook for the fishing behind the app. Messages there get read; support questions get answered faster by email.
The v4 update
v4 arrives as a regular App Store or Google Play update to the app you already have — same listing, same subscription, same price. The first time you open it, your data upgrades in place: catches, spots, trips, tracks, photos, boat profile and forecasts all carry forward, and on iPhone your iCloud backup stays untouched underneath.
- There is nothing to do. No export, no re-import, no new purchase.
- Setting up a new phone? Sign in and sync brings your fishing down. On iPhone you can also restore from your iCloud backup — it finds the backup on its own.
- On iPhone, if it says it cannot find a backup, the usual cause is iCloud Drive being off for the app — check Settings → your name → iCloud → Apps using iCloud.
- On Android, sync is your copy. There is no separate cloud backup; sign in and your fishing is on our servers, and a new phone gets it back by signing in. A backup file from the earlier Android app restores through Restore from Backup.
- If anything looks off after updating, email us — and mention that it was right before the update, which is the detail that finds the cause fastest.
Accounts
Do I need one?
Only to sync. Without an account everything works, but it lives on that one phone — if you lose it, the data goes with it.
Why email and password?
No Google or Facebook sign-in, and no Sign in with Apple. One credential keeps your address real, which matters when you need a password reset or we need to tell you something about your data.
Forgot your password?
Use "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen. A code arrives by email. Losing a password does not lose your data.
Face ID
On iPhone, unlocks a session you have already signed into, so you are not retyping a password on the water. It never replaces the password, and the password always still works. Android signs in with the password; the session stays signed in between trips the same way.
Subscription
- One annual subscription. Everything is included — no tiers, no add-ons.
- On iPhone, manage or cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
- On Android, manage or cancel it in Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, whichever store you bought through. We cannot issue them, but we can help you with the request, and we will never contest one.
- If you have paid and the app does not know it, tap Restore purchase on the paywall.
- When a subscription lapses your data is not deleted. It stays on your device and you can still export it.
Out on the water
The app is built to work with no signal. Recording a catch, starting a trip, dropping a spot and tracking a drift never wait on a network. Forecasts for your areas are fetched ahead of time, while you still have a connection, so they are there when you do not.
- A catch logged without a GPS fix is saved anyway and marked as unplaced. Place it later from the map — the species, time and count were never in doubt.
- Sync catches up when you get signal back. Nothing is lost while you are out of range, however long that is.
- An expired sign-in never locks you out of your own data. It only pauses syncing.
Your data
- Export everything from inside the app, in open formats, whenever you want.
- Delete your account from inside the app, or at gethooked.fish/delete-account if you no longer have it installed. It genuinely deletes, and we cannot get it back afterwards.
- We never pool your data with other anglers', and never sell it. The Privacy Policy spells out exactly what is stored and where.
Reporting a problem
What helps most, in one message:
- What you were doing and what happened instead
- Your phone model and its OS version — iPhone and iOS, or the Android make and version
- Roughly when it happened
- If it was an import, the import log — the import screen has a Share the import log button, and the file contains counts and timings but no coordinates, names or notes
Screenshots are welcome. Please do not send passwords; we will never ask for one.
